INDIA-ITALY PARTNERSHIP: ENERGY TRANSITION AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY – PRIORITISING | ENERGY TRANSITION | NEEDS OF G20 – Webinar 24 February 2023

The G20 Energy Transition Working Group (ETWG), the first under India’s presidency, held in Bengaluru, concluded yesterday making clear that climate change and clean energy are the areas where India intends to lead at a global level.

The member countries in this meeting responded positively to the need for energy security and diversified supply chains, given that the energy transition pathway should be different for each country depending on its energy base and potential.

Recently, Italy and India have expressed their resolve to strengthen cooperation in the strategic sectors addressed by the Action Plan for an enhanced Partnership between India and Italy (2020 –2024), including the cross-cutting issue of accelerating the clean energy transition to fight climate change.

Such a partnership could build on existing bilateral mechanisms, including by giving new impetus to the cooperation on renewable energy and sustainable development between both countries.

We aim to discuss the contours of a partnership between India and Italy given India’s timely G20 presidency.
